We begin the 2017 HSF Preservation Brown Bag series by looking at how selected award winning projects came about. What is the process of imagining, designing, and building a residential rehabilitation project?
217 North Madison Street was the recipient of a 2015 HSF Award for Residential Rehabilitation and also included on the 2016 Holiday House Tour. Constructed between 1904 and 1909, this home is a two story, wood frame house with a simple hip, standing seam metal roof and full width front porch – typical of many similar frame houses scattered throughout the Stuart Hall Neighborhood.
Completed in 2015, the award winning rehabilitation thoughtfully opens, extends, and clarifies the function and arrangement of both interior living areas and adjacent porches. The resulting rehabilitation is an open, light, refreshing, contemporary interpretation of an everyday frame house.
