Light the Night Right: Why Smart Lighting Matters

For this month’s Preservation Brown Bag, we will join with the Newtown Neighborhood Association on May 16, 7:30pm at City Hall (116 East Beverley Street) for their presentation Light the Night Right: Why Smart Lighting Matters

The Newtown Neighborhood Association has asked Historic Staunton Foundation to support their Smart Lighting Initiative and to partner with educational sessions. HSF is happy to collaborate in this effort to bring about another positive attribute for our historic neighborhoods.

A consistent issue for neighbors is the quantity and quality of exterior lighting including streetlights and privately owned security lighting.  Quality lighting will enhance building architecture, the overall landscape, energy efficiency, and provide safely illuminated walking surfaces. When used incorrectly, research indicates artificial lighting results in light pollution including, light trespass and glare.

Open and free to the public.
